Step 1
Clean and inspect all parts.
Step 2
Back the set screw in the polylock all the way to the top of the hex end. This will provide the proper room to set the lash on the valve.
NOTE: All rocker arm adjusters must be checked for proper clearance between the “base” of the rocker arm adjuster (also referred to as polylocks) and the inside of the upper rocker arm pivot slot. Clearance between the “base” or lower portion of the rocker arm adjuster and the inside radius of the upper rocker arm pivot slot is critical to the proper operation of the valve train. Rockers must maintain full range of motion without any binding or interference between the rocker body and rocker arm adjusters. While many rocker arm designs accommodate the larger polylock “base” diameter, some rocker bodies incorporate narrower pivot “slots” in their design. Please contact PRW directly if you find that your rocker arms require the smaller diameter polylock “base” and these rocker arm “adjusters” will be exchanged at no charge. ADDITIONAL CLARIFICATION: Before installing this aluminum stud girdle, please check to confirm that the “base” of the stud girdle rocker arm “adjusters” (polylocks included with this product) fit inside the upper rocker arm pivot “slot” and move “freely” in your rocker arm. If there is little or no clearance, you may need to contact PRW to exchange these “adjusters” for the latest design. Step 3
Pontiac, Small Block Chevy, & Small Block Ford After all rocker arms are in place, check to be sure that the flat side of the rocker arm trunion is facing up for the polylock to sit on. Screw the polylocks down onto the rockers leaving them finger tight and do not adjust the screw. Canted Valve Engines – Big Block Chevy & 429-460 Ford Due to the complex valve arrangement, the installation procedure is a little different. After all rocker arms are in place, check to be sure that the flat side of the rocker arm trunion is facing up for the polylock to sit on. At this point, install only the top row of polylocks. These are the studs for the intake and require the longer polylocks (except for the 429-460 which may have the same length studs).
Step 4
Pontiac, Small Block Chevy, & Small Block Ford Slide the stud girdle onto the polylocks (Make sure the machined side is facing up). It may be necessary to wiggle the stud girdle to line up all of the polylocks, but do not force it.
Canted Valve Engines – Big Block Chevy & 429-460 Ford Without using force, slide the stud girdle onto the top row of polylocks (Make sure the machined side is facing up). Move the stud girdle down until the bottom row of studs is centered in the bottom row of holes. Then slide the remaining polylocks through the bottom holes and thread them onto the studs. Note the angled holes in the stud girdle. The angled holes require adjustment of the stud girdle up and down so that the lower row of polylocks will line up with their corresponding studs. At this point it may be necessary to wiggle the stud girdle to line up all of the polylocks. Using this technique, they should all start and go on correctly.
