How do you replace a turn signal thermal flasher unit?

December 27th, 2010 · No Comments

I have a 1992 Cadillac Sedan DeVille. The turn signals have stopped functioning, and I believe the culprit to be an old Thermal Flasher Unit. I have found the unit, it is a Wagner 552, 12v. It has two wires coming off the back of the little aluminum can shaped thing.
How do I install a new one?
How do I take the old one out?! I can’t see where the wires go off to in the bundle, and I don’t know if you’re supposed to unplug the little aluminum can where the wires attach to the unit itself, or at the end of wherever those wires lead to in the bundle.

- You can find these flashers at any parts store. It just unplugs, no rocket science here except there might be two of them, the other for the emergency indicator.
- First make sure you don’t have burned out bulbs. That’s usually the reason the turn signals stop working. Then check the fuse. If everything is okay there, just unplug the can you found, it will probably have three wires, and plug in a new one. It only goes one way.
