What are possible causes for windscreen wipers not working on Volkswagen Polo

September 20th, 2011 · No Comments

- Depends what you mean by not working. If not moving at at could be…blown fuse, bad earth contact, siezed mechism (spray wiper motor with wd40), broken wiper motor. If moving but smearing or not cleaning windows properly..clean rubber blades by wiping with a cloth with a little vinegar on failing that (if blade too worn or ripped) replace wiper blades.

- When you switch on wipers can you hear the motor? If not, check the fuse, if fuse ok, maybe be broken motor. If you can hear the motor, might be the linkeage.

- A build up of grime etc, wipe the wipers with vinegar or white spirits using a tissue normally does the trick.

- Have you tried changing the fuse? Look in the manual, it is really easy, even I can do it and I am a girl. And a blonde one at that!

- Something stuck in mechanism e.g. leaves. Wiper blades crumbly and dragging on/ sticking to windscreen – blades need replacing.

- First check the fuse. If its not that, get a circuit tester and see if there is power to the wiper motor, if there is the motor is burnt out. If not you have problem with wiring.

- Could be a fuse has blown but this usually means something electrically has gone wrong.Wipers are driven by a motor that is operated by a switch.Try checking this items.
