I was driving it to work this morning and noticed it was making a noise that sounded like when kids put baseball cards in their bicycle spokes. I immediately turned around to head back home and got about a mile down the road before losing power and the car completely dying. It has oil and transmission fluid in it. It also has a 98 motor in it. Now it’s not wanted to start back up and I have no clue what’s wrong with it.
- Most common problem on the altima that would prevent it from starting or running is failure of engine distributor . as for the sound, I can’t guess since I never heard anything like that before..but most likely it’s engine distributor it fails on altimas
- If the car runs fine when first start and move for a time , then start to make the funny noise it may be exhaust related . possible a cat conveter is clogging up.
- Take off the oil cap and look in with a light while someone cranks the engine. if you do not see any movement your timing belt has broken and you should get a new engine.
- Better check the timing belt. it could have broke and hitting on the timing case. just hope it did,nt bend the valves when it broke.
