I want to flush the transmission but dont have time to take it to the shop. I was wondering is there any way that I can do it my self at home.
- The only way to flush is with a flush machine, they cost thousands. Drain and fill is what you could do at home, filter if it’s serviceable.
- Taking it to a shop should be faster than doing it yourself. When you go to the shop, be sure that they have a power flush machine. That will remove the fluid from the torque converter. Just draining the transmission pan will not remove all the fluid at all. The last time that I had one flushed, it cost me about a 100. It took about a half hour to complete the job as I waited. Quite a few of the half hour oil change places have the equipment to do the job.
- I like to leave this up to the shop since they have a machine that can fully flush all the old fluid out. If you just drain whats in the pan, you’re still leaving a bunch of old fluid in the torque converter and other parts.
If you really have the time you can do the trick I sometimes do. Drain the pan, refill, run the engine for a minute or so, then drain again and refill. You use twice as much fluid but you get a better flush! Make sure you replace the filter and gasket though!
- step 1 get shop manual.. 2…jack it up and brace it with jack stands or wood blocks…pull pan off, getting quarts of fluid all over you and driveway…replace filter while ur at it…always use new gasket..
