- Those might still have points, change and adjust them along witha new condenser.

-Has it got a 3 wire plug to the distributor? if so it will be marked up + o – turn ignition on, pull coil lead off distributor and hold 1cm away from engine block, pull the plug off the distributor and put a split pin into the terminal marked o then tap this on the engine block. The coil lead should spark, if it does change the hall sensor in the distributor (may have to buy complete distributor).

Besides the water pump what else on 1998 Audi A4 could be causing overheating?

May 13th, 2012 · No Comments

- Water pumps rarely cause overheating. A water pump is just a shaft, bearing, and impeller, and for it to cause overheating the impeller would have to come loose or break, which is pretty rare. Failures are usually related to the bearing wearing out and causing a leak or causing the shaft/pulley to break loose. It’s much more likely that there is a problem with the thermostat, radiator, etc, or that coolant is low due to a leak.

Advice on a gearbox problem on Audi

May 13th, 2012 · No Comments

In fact I thought it was me not fully pressing the clutch and ignored it. The problem continued and I was careful to ensure the clutch was fully employed. On a trip at the weekend I noticed that the problem had also started occurring in 3rd as well. Monday morning I booked it in at my local garage and it’s due to go in tomorrow. Of course since I’ve done that the gearbox has been as smooth as anything – for the first time in months!

May 13th, 2012 · No Comments

- As stated you top up through the diptube, usually located at the rear of the engine. There may not be a dipstick in the tube and it may have a tamperproof cap fitted, may be better taking to a garage if you don’t have the correct workshop tool (dipstick) as you will be guessing at the correct level.
