1980 Cadillac Seville has a 5.7 liter engine

December 27th, 2010 · No Comments

I’m looking to buy a 1980 Cadillac Seville which I haven’t seen in person yet. On the phone, the owners wife says the car has the 5.7 liter engine which she read directly from the title. I know that the 5.7 diesel was the standard motor and a 6.0 gas motor was the option for that year. Upon my asking, she and her son insist that their car does not have the diesel engine, an engine I want to avoid.
How is this possible? I know that a previous owner could’ve done an engine swap for a gas 5.7 engine but is it possible that the 5.7 gas was special ordered from the factory? OR is it possible that the OEM engine in their car was once a 5.7 diesel and was converted to a gas engine at some point?

Oxygen Sensor – Low Voltage?

December 22nd, 2010 · No Comments

I ran numerous Diagnostics tests with the OBD-II readers and replaced many oxygen sensors (Bosch and Delphi) with my 2000 Chevrolet Silverado. But my check engine light has been on for the past month with the new oxygen sensor. The last test, I replaced the Bosch oxygen sensor with a Delphi. I made a quick run to Tuffy and asked to run a test for my truck. They did. After that, it read O2 Sensor – Bank 2 Sensor 2 – Low Voltage. I know it’s downstream (passenger side, after the cats). The mechanic told me it has something to do with the wiring harness that connects to the computer, or a wire has been tugged/pinched during installation (made sure I didn’t touch anything other than the oxygen sensor).

Why isn’t my bass as loud?

December 22nd, 2010 · No Comments

Hey everybody I have two MTX 12′ thunder 7500 series subwoofers in a ported bass slammers box strapped by a kenwood KAC-9104D amplifier and a stinger 1 FARAD capacitor in my 1996 chevrolet cavalier. The question is this: Why won’t my bass hit as hard as it did before the professional installation? I had hooked the subs up to the amplifier myself and sent it in to get fully re-wired and have everything professionally done to make sure it would sound good. It looks much better and custom to the maximum, but the bass doesn’t hit as hard. The factors that might preside are…….

Chevrolet V8 2brl choke spring?

December 22nd, 2010 · No Comments

I’ve been scratching my head, I bought a new choke spring for chevy 307 V8 with 2 barrel rochester carb on it. The truck had a manual choke as original equip. I bought a carb that has a vacuum choke pull off and needed the choke spring to make the choke close. This is the choke that sits in the recess of the intake manifold and a rod runs to the choke plate.

The problem that I have it that it looks like the choke spring will pull the choke opened and not closed when cold. which is 180 from what it is supose to do. The choke spring only fits one way. So I’m sure about it’s installation what i’m not sure about is which way the choke spring operates. I believe that if it gets hot is is supose to expand and pull the choke opened, and when cold it’s contracts and pulls choke closed. Or maybe it;s the oppisite. I’m confused..

Aftermarket stereo installation in a 2005 Chevrolet Silverado?

December 21st, 2010 · No Comments

I have a 2005 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 LS Crew Cab and I bought a Kenwood KDC-MP145 stereo to install in it. I’ve already installed new speakers, but I don’t know how to install the head unit at all. I have seen these GM harnesses that keep the factory chimes and what not, but I know that I don’t have to have that. I know how to take the factory head unit out of the dash, but I don’t know how to connect the new head unit. On other cars it seems like it’s plug and play or something. Can someone PLEASE show me an article, video, etc. on how to install a head unit in my truck without buying some $100 GM harness?

Chevrolet Prizm (Corolla) mysterious power locks?

December 21st, 2010 · No Comments

I just purchased a 1998 Chevrolet Prizm. It does not have power locks or windows. The other day while driving the vehicle I noticed that all the doors were locked when I tried to get out of the car. I don’t remember locking the doors. With a little more investigation, it turns out that the door locks lock when the car is put into gear and unlock when put into park. Except, the doors do not have controls for the locks. Has anyone ever heard of this before? How easy would it be to complete the installation of the power locks (IE: Add control units on doors)
